The nature of prefabricated construction is, by its very nature, is a greener method of building, however at SBS we go one step further to offer our precision panels in LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber) - a sustainable product that is of higher-quality and more durable than traditional lumber.
What is Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL)?
LSL is a unique lumber product that has been engineered to stay completely straight. No warps, twists or bows. As a result, it’s one of the most innovative and versatile building products available. The manufacturing process combines technology and innovation to produce this higher-quality, stronger, and more sustainable lumber.
The fiber is sourced through programs certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. This initiative uses small-diameter trees that are not strong or straight enough on their own to be of structural value as conventional sawn lumber products. This method helps to protect old-growth forests typically harvested for durable lumber.
Here are some of the benefits of LSL that help to make Stillwater Building Systems' wood wall panels one of the best on the market.
Efficiency: Faster installation (buildup not required for 2×4 frame).
Consistency: Straighter, taller, longer and stronger than conventional lumber.
Versatility: Use for floor beams, door and window headers, garage door headers, roof and wall framing, rim board, stair stringers and sill plates.
Peace of Mind: Consistent low moisture content helps resist twisting, warping and shrinking.
Sustainability: Fiber is sourced through programs certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
Cost vs. Benefit: While LSL is more expensive, the added value to the consumer (contractor and homeowner) is that they have less stud correction, and wall finishes can be installed to very high tolerances, allowing for high-end (level 5 smooth) drywall finishes.
